Nothing fancy, nothing complicated. Just a witch that is a bit of a scattered brain trying to do her best. I always like these books. Jan 03, Skye rated it it was amazing Shelves: So impressed with Jill Murphy's ability to continue this series nearly thirty years after she started it with the same genuine spirit, unchanged by all the adaptations and imitations. The illustrations in this new volume were particularly good. May 16, Rachel rated it it was amazing Shelves: I enjoyed this one.
I liked the dog and the idea of wishing on a star. I was somewhat hoping the other person who wished for something - that their wish would have been something else. I wish I could have read these books when I was a kid. Only as an adult have I been reading them and only the first and now this one, I skipped the others but plan to read them all! Super cute, just like the rest! Jul 14, Freya rated it liked it.
Nov 12, Josie rated it liked it Shelves: I feel a bit guilty for admitting this, but I actually enjoyed seeing Mildred become a confident young woman in this book, thanks to her fourth form duties as lantern monitor, and rescuing a stray dog only to discover he's a natural on the back of a broomstick. I do slightly miss the Mildred of old, and her endless struggles with Tabby, but there's something rather comforting about knowing she's not doomed to be a failure her whole life.
I also enjoyed seeing a different side to Miss Hardbroom, I feel a bit guilty for admitting this, but I actually enjoyed seeing Mildred become a confident young woman in this book, thanks to her fourth form duties as lantern monitor, and rescuing a stray dog only to discover he's a natural on the back of a broomstick. I also enjoyed seeing a different side to Miss Hardbroom, which definitely surprised me! I thought she was one of those characters you love to hate, but it was great to see she can be kind and reasonable too.
I almost wish Mildred hadn't won the talent competition with her last minute entry, because I don't think she needed to prove she was brilliant. But I'm very glad Miss Cackle's Academy will finally get their long desired swimming pool, haha. It was so adorable! With everyone finally finding some joy in life, save for Ethel of course someone is ought to cast some crucio on her XD. Problem is, I actually cant! This makes me really sad.
From to only seven books, still thank you so much for this Jill Murphy! En conjunto con los dibujos, la historia se vuelve mejor, aunque tiene un momento o dos que parece monotona, tiene el toque de Mildred.
Apr 22, sabisteb aka callisto rated it it was amazing Shelves: Am ersten Tag geht diesmal nichts schief. Aug 04, Sarah Crawford rated it it was amazing. This is a really delightful series.
Nothing really horrible happens. It's safe for young people to read. It's funny and instructive at the same time. In this book Mildred is in her senior year. Some students are given special responsibilities and hers is to light the candles in a certain section of the building. Why they don't use electricity or magic to do the same does bother me some.
During this task she finds a dog that's not well off and ends up adopting the dog which is something that's a This is a really delightful series. During this task she finds a dog that's not well off and ends up adopting the dog which is something that's actually not allowed. She manages to keep the dog hidden and they end up working together nad having fun, especially with the dog doing lots of tricks on the broomstick while Mildred is flying. The school is in a competition to win an indoor swimming pool. There's some beautiful costumes. You can guess what happens to them.
So it's up to Mildred and her dog to win a competition that they never thought they would enter.
The Worst Witch and The Wishing Star by Jill Murphy
With most everyone mad at her for the costume fiasco it's up to Mildred and her dog to do something that no one thinks they can do. Nov 16, Teresa Barrera rated it it was amazing. This is the last book in The Worst Witch series and I enjoyed all 7 books. It's definitely no surprise that each term, Mildred gets herself into a predicament and finds herself in trouble, but in the end things turn out alright. In this final book, Mildred wishes on a wish and gets her wish. She faces new challenges and as no surprise, Ethel there to make things difficult.
But, in this book, the challenges doesn't come as tough as in the other book and she's found her way more. This is a great series for kids as it teaches you don't have to be the best at everything, but to do your best and not give up, for things turn out well in the end.
It also shows good strong friendships which I have to say, Maud is may favorite character. It's also an enjoyable series to read for adults who enjoy magical fun reads and those kids at heart. This was definitely the best book of the series.
It didn't jump around too much and it gave plenty of details about everything that was going on. This book was actually pretty good and I loved that Mildred finally seemed to be learning her lesson with Ethel and that Miss Hardbroom finally seemed to be loosening up and actually liking Mildred a little. This was definitely my favorite book of the series and I'm sad that it was the last one because I think the series could have kept getting better.
Jan 01, Kay rated it it was amazing Shelves: Another book one of my nieces was reading. Very cute, enjoyable book. Great character development and story line that moves along. Aug 29, Diane Heath rated it really liked it Shelves: This was one of the better stories in the series. The series is designed for young readers and sometimes is overly simplified. Mildred bevomes Lantern Monitor and finds a new pet dog named Star. Oct 24, Rachael rated it really liked it Shelves: Such a good series, I hope that more get published, although this one did wrap up well.
She still has another form to go! Jun 30, Annie Smith rated it it was amazing. I love this book. Nov 14, Rhia Mahay rated it it was amazing. Loved how entertaining it was. Sep 25, Marda rated it really liked it. Cute although rather predictable. Oct 02, Joan rated it really liked it.
Fun, well-imagined world with lovable characters. What more can you ask for? Oct 07, Sharon Tyler rated it liked it. I had not read the previous books, and while I would have had a better understanding of each character and how they relate to each other, I was perfectly able to enjoy the story regardless. Inspired by this responsibility, Mildred tries to stay out of trouble.

Can Mildred keep Star a secret and avoid setting fire to the school despite an impending talent competition, the disapproving Miss Hardbroom, and her ever-spiteful classmate Ethel Hallow? Mildred tries her best to be herself, and a good witch. She champions the animals and fellow students that are as awkward or that might feel as much of a misfit as she does. When she is given the task of lighting and extinguishing candles every day Mildred works very hard and does a great job.
In the process she also happens to find a stray dog that she just needs to take care of. In the process she trains the dog to do wonderful things.
The Worst Witch and the Wishing Star
I really liked that all her efforts to do the right thing, regardless of the rules, turns out to be the thing that saves the day. The Worst Witch and the Wishing Star is a charming book for every reader that has ever felt left out or behind. Anyone that has felt clumsy or different can see a bit of themselves in Mildred, I know I saw some of myself.
This is a fun and charming read that has me thinking I should go back and read the earlier books ion the series. Sorry, even though I enjoyed this book I am dropping the series. Ethel is just getting unbearable. Again, she is a total bitch and she once again ruins it for Mildred. I really hate Ethel, she is one of the worst characters I ever seen. I don't get why the school doesn't see what is happening. After all we know what happened various times, and during those times the school head must have seen that quite often it was Ethel's fault, yet they always blame poor Mildred.
Mildred was wonderful in this Sorry, even though I enjoyed this book I am dropping the series. Mildred was wonderful in this book, you can clearly see she has grown a lot through the years and the books. She is still clumsy, still does things wrong, but you can see she has a heart of gold underneath that. She does her best and she did so well during this term, sadly Ethel again ruined everything.
The story was also fun and I really liked the ending. However the formula of the books keep being the same: It gets old, really old. I wish the books would have a bit difference with the formula. I also didn't particularly like the teachers POV, I come for Mildred and her adventures, not for some old hags who don't see the good in people and only look at Ethel with drooling admiration.
